About me
I’m Nichelle. I like to crochet, and I enjoy writing amigurumi patterns. I don’t sell what I make, and actively avoid monetizing this hobby.
I once crocheted the City Council of Saint Paul. I was in the Pioneer Press, got my picture taken by Devanie Andre, and was featured at the Smallest Museum in Saint Paul. It was very fun.
I think of crochet as my own personal (ineffective) anti-capitalist protest. My patterns are not written with sales in mind, and are likely too time intensive to ever be profitable if sold. For reference, using a standard product cost calculation using an hourly rate half of minimum wage would set the item cost of the toys on this site somewhere between $250 and $400. Updating or creating a new design would easily double or triple that cost. I am morally opposed to paying someone (even myself) half of minimum wage, and I am not interested in selling a toy crocheted toy for children for more than $500, so I consider these works of love and do not accept payment. If gave you something and was a little cagey about the cost, this is why. If I accepted a gift card or exchange of services as a thank you, please know this was sincere and accepted with the spirit it was given.
I learned to crochet because of free patterns I found online. I always thought I would return the favor- “pay it forward” with my own patterns, but it turns out I only kind-of like updating this site, so it is perpetually a work in progress.
